Biology: At one point, Carolyn was once a usual baseline human. One morning, after a night's sleep filled with strange dreams, something changed.

Carolyn's body is paranormally inhabited by an entity of unknown nature. At rest, its existence can only be noticed from the presence of microscopic dark particles embedded in the body. When awakened (usually from moments of high stress, or from the entity noticing certain actions in the area), it manifests as an explosion of contorted tendrils from the body in a process that is painful, but not as much as would be expected. The tendrils have the feeling of moist paper and leather, but are more durable than expected. When extended, these act through a mix of Carolyn's will and the will of the instinctual being inside.

More passively, the entity grants Carolyn a steady regenerative force, which is useful as the expulsion of tendrils often damages the flesh around it, and may dislocate joints in the case of limbs. It also provides Carolyn a steady mental shield against possessions and other tamperings of the mind.

Personality: Carolyn is someone with desires of becoming an accomplished journalist, but often finds that most known companies either are not interested in her work, or have practices she considers distasteful. This leaves her with a low income, working on articles on niche (and sometimes paranormal) topics. This is given her a tendency towards depressive mental states, not helped by the entity now sharing her body. That said, despite it all, she still cradles a dream of being able to influence the world for the better.

As for the entity itself, its exact motives are not known, but it seems to have an instinctual pull towards hidden and secret things... regardless of the danger involved.
